My inspiration for the piece

A patient with dilated cardiomyopathy I treated during my Internal Medicine rotation.

I wanted to present a bird’s eye view of a complicated issue, in order to appreciate the individual elements. It is my first digital painting.

How my art relates to medicine

I have been drawing, mostly pencil sketches, since childhood. The cardiovascular system has always captivated me even before I wanted to do medicine.

Mohammed Ahmed is a third-year medical student at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Royal Oak, MI. He is originally from Ethiopia and did his undergraduate studies in Canada. Finding interesting ways medicine and art intersect is a recent endeavor he is exploring.
