Summary of features: Airway Ex is essentially a video game for health care providers. The app compiles highly realistic, virtual cases for users to complete which get increasingly difficult over time. The more challenging cases are eligible for CME credit. Users can also login with Doximity and compete for high scores with their friends and colleagues.

This app is useful for: Anesthesiology or Emergency Medicine physicians, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and any other health professional interested in learning more about airway procedures.

Good User Review: “Intubation cases all look so real … anatomy is incredibly detailed and responds to everything I do. Cases…[could] be more challenging, but easy to get hooked and run through everything in one sitting.” — Dr. A.R.H on the App Store.

Limitations: Because the controls need to be elaborate to mock real procedures, the controls are very sensitive to the touch and challenging to control on a small screen. As realistic as the app is, the cases are unable to fully represent all aspects of medicine, including full patient backgrounds and emergency complications.

More from this developer: Level Ex offers other apps with the same CME perks for different specialties and body systems, such as Gastro Ex. Currently, they have two other apps in development: Pulm Ex and Cardio Ex.

Download: Airway Ex is free (with In-App purchases) on the App Store or on Google Play.
